Courage of Carly Fund

Giving every child a fighting chance

The Courage of Carly Fund, with support from the Roswell Park Alliance Foundation, is dedicated to raising funds specifically for our youngest fighters — pediatric cancer and blood disorder patients. Donations to Courage of Carly fuel promising scientific research, provide financial support to families and create memories for the children who need it most.

Roswell Park is the only organization in WNY researching childhood cancer

Carly's story

When eight-year-old Carly Collard Cottone was diagnosed with brain cancer, she knew she wanted to make a difference for other kids like her. She was up against something tough, but it was a challenge she faced with courage and optimism. On her 9th birthday, with the help of family, friends and Roswell Park, she established the Courage of Carly Fund back in 2000.

She taught those around her to love one another and to give back whenever possible. She passed away in 2002, and her vision lives on in the thousands of children who find hope, compassion and community through Courage of Carly.

Three smiling children pose closely together; the oldest girl rests her face in her hands, a baby in a white sweater sits in the middle, and a young boy leans in—showing the hope you can bring by supporting children battling cancer through Courage of Carly.

When we don’t have those victories — when families experience the absolute lowest moments — it reinforces why this work matters. It reignites the passion to advocate for better research, better cures and better awareness. Our goal is always to help families make connections with others who understand their journey.

We have taken lead roles in national clinical trials and changing the standard of care for different diseases that we care for. Seeing how our advancements in just a couple of years made all the difference makes me excited for patients in the future. We are really on the cusp of just transformative changes for many of the diseases that we care for.
