New Endowment Aims to Advance Lymphoma Research
We are proud to announce The Mary Alice and Ross Eckert Endowed Chair to Support the Advancement of Lymphoma Research at Roswell Park. A $1 million gift was graciously committed by Ross and Mary Alice Eckert to honor and thank Mary Alice’s doctor, Francisco J. Hernandez-Ilizaliturri, MD, for saving her life — twice.
Dr. Hernandez’s work as a prominent physician and researcher on the Roswell Park Lymphoma Oncology team has earned him the respect and adoration of colleagues and patients alike. His exceptional care in supporting Mary Alice during her journey with non-Hodgkins, follicular lymphoma has earned him the Eckert’s highest esteem and appreciation. Mary Alice, an inspiration to all who have met her, beat cancer twice over the last nine years, enduring treatment with grace and humor.
The Eckerts are deeply rooted in the Western New York community and always lead by example, encouraging others to give, volunteer and advocate. Most recently, the Eckerts spoke at Ride for Roswell Celebration of Hope and inspired hundreds to keep up the momentum in mission to end cancer. Ross currently serves as chair of the Roswell Park Alliance Foundation, and both he and Mary Alice proudly support the critical work being done at Roswell Park.
The endowment will allow Dr. Hernandez to not only continue but advance critical lymphoma research. With these funds, he will work closely with his team to uncover the latest breakthrough in treatment options for lymphoma, helping patients now and for generations to come.
